he Aspen Science Center Early STEM program will be offering 3 different summer camp sessions designed specifically for children of Kindergarten age (5 & 6 years old). We will be introducing children to science terms and concepts in a really fun way! Each day children will participate in hands-on investigations, enjoy outdoor playtime, scavenger hunts, storytime, and lots of fun science learning.
Kids can channel their energy into learning about, identifying, investigating and having fun with different types of energy existing all around them in their everyday world. What is kinetic energy? Are you hungry? Is it snack time? It is also time to learn about chemical energy, stored energy and energy transfer. What is renewable energy? What is non-renewable energy and how is this related to global warming and climate change? We’ll learn about potential energy, thermal energy and much more. Through stories, songs, hands-on investigations and demonstrations, we will enjoy learning and fun in the sun with new friends!
Kids will discover and uncover rocks, stones, gems and minerals. Our days will include a rockin’ story time, rock songs, and culminate with a “Rockfest’” at the end of the week when kids can exhibit their rock collections. We will learn about lava and make our own volcanos. We’ll create crystals and observe their formation. Daily walks in nature will allow us to collect rocks and we will learn how to distinguish different types of rocks. For the future petrologists among us.. get ready to rock out!
Children will push, pull, roll and bounce through the week as they investigate force and motion. We will build ball mazes and racing ramps to see gravity and friction in action. Daily story time, games and songs will encourage learning about the forces at play in our world.
