Sunday May 3rd  11-3pm: Session 1 for younger kids and families (8 activities) Getting to know Nano Technology

  • Exploring Fabrication with Gummy Capsules, or a self-assembly of capsules by dropping one compound into a solution
  • Exploring Materials with Ferrofluid, or magnetic suspensions and magnetic liquids
  • Exploring Materials with Oobleck, or non-newtonian fluids and protective padding for high energy sports
  • Exploring Materials with thin films, or coating objects with very thin layers of material to enhance colors
  • Exploring Products with Kinetic Sand, or comparing natural sand with nano-coated sand to produce different properties
  • Exploring Properties with Heat Transfer, or comparing melting rates of ice relative to contact with different materials
  • Exploring Properties with UV-reactive beads, or watching the beads of a bracelet change color when exposed to UV light
  • Exploring Properties with invisibility, or refracting light with a nano-tube veil to cloak an object

*Mothers’ day take-home activity, where participants make something for Mom to take away on this special day

3D Printing Demonstration as a tie-in with nano-fabrication; with or without possible partnership with Aspen’s 3D Concepts
