March 25, 2015 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Smitha Vishveshwara, Associate Professor of Physics at University of Illinois, holds a diverse set of interests that represent various topics in condensed-matter physics, including cold atomic systems, carbon nanotubes, co-existence of quantum phases in optical lattices, anyons in 2D systems, and quantum phenomena in 1D systems. Her approachable teaching style and talent for distilling complicated concepts mark this presentation led by Professor Vishveshwara as the perfect opportunity to understand Condensed Matter.

Professor Jon Simon, head of the Simon Lab for Ultracold Quantum Materials at the University of Chicago, knows that if you cool an atom to an extremely low temperature, you can control its properties and behaviors and observe crystalline and superfluid phases. He and his team of atomic physicists are also the first generation of quantum engineers, they build and study designer many-body systems.
